If you want to explore some of the less popular locations and see less tourists and more of the authentic local life, you could start with Cerro San Cristobal, located in Santiago close to La Chascona – from there, you’ll be presented with a magnificent view over the city, and you can climb further upwards and explore the region with its preserved natural environment and beautiful sights. Definitely a place that can make you mad that you’ve forgotten your camera, so don’t make that mistake!

If you enjoy history, you can visit the Rafael Larco Herrera museum in Liam, Peru – it’s been preserved since the 18th century, built where once a pyramid stood. The museum is run privately but it’s home to one of the world’s greatest collections of ceramics – you’d hardly find a more impressive arrangement elsewhere, with the museum claiming that they hold over 50,000 pots. Responsible for the collection of a large number of them was one of Peru’s former vice presidents.

While we’re on the topic of Peru, we can’t forget to mention the Granja Heidi restaurant in Cuzco – with its great variety of tasty snacks and fresh fruits, it’s the perfect place to grab something to eat while enjoying some beautiful scenery. And no matter how hungry you are, there’s no way one of their breakfasts won’t be able to quell that—the food is relatively cheap too, making it a popular place among locals and visiting foodies.
